July 2022 Newsletter
/A moment from our grand opening
We are in Miami and ready to make art with you!
Time is flying! We can hardly believe it, but our grand opening was nearly a month ago now and we have been busy almost every day since. The phone’s been ringing, the emails have been coming in, and more importantly, there has been plenty of ink on the presses — we are officially back to work! Thank you all for coming in, reaching out, and reading these newsletters as we have been getting back up to speed in our new home. We can’t wait to make prints and books with you.
On that note, we are open to projects of all sorts. Collaborations, publishing of prints and books, and of course, if you want to make your art here, we are ready to sign you up for our new Studio Membership program! There are tons of new ways to get involved in the studio, but our resources are limited, so whatever it is you want to do, reach out as soon as possible to get started and get yourself on the schedule.
FEATURED PRINT PROJECT
MY BODY IS MINE AND MINE ALONE
Printmaking — particularly letterpress — has a long and impossible to ignore role in shaping the political trajectory of this country (really the world, but we’re going to stay local for this description). Today, historical protest posters still influence contemporary design and even fine art printmaking often draws from it’s deeply political roots to engage with modern issues. When the Dobbs decision was announced at the end of June overturning Roe v. Wade we were heartbroken and furious, so we did what we do best in times where we feel silenced: we took out some big old wood type from the Selikoff Collection and got to printing.
We wanted to make a poster that would be at home marching on the streets in protest but could live just as comfortably sparking conversation on a wall in a home or studio. These posters are making their way into the world, declaring the importance of bodily autonomy and consent wherever they wind up. If you or someone you know would like to have one, please get in touch. Instead of selling them, we are offering them in exchange for a direct donation of any amount to Brigid Alliance, Indigenous Women Rising, the ACLU, or Planned Parenthood. Just stop by the studio during our open hours and show us your receipts to pick up your own. If you would like us to ship posters to you and are willing to pay for shipping, please send an email to brooke@isprojectsfl.com to make arrangements.
The posters were printed on pink, blue, white, and grey papers.
SUMMER CLASSES
Take a look at our new offerings below. We have a couple of very exciting classes coming up, including one taught by guest artist Gabriela Gamboa. She will be teaching Mapping Out a Photo Book in August, so we recommend getting yourself registered soon!
