February Class Newsletter

Those of you keeping up with us on social media and through our monthly newsletter have probably already heard the news that the studio will be moving by the end of May. This means that we will be stopping workshops after March in preparation for the big move, with plans to resume just as soon as we’re settled in the new space. We are close to finalizing some details on our new home and will share the news just as soon as we’re able.

In the meantime, we would LOVE to see some familiar faces over the next couple of months and hope you all get a chance to visit us before we relocate. With that in mind, and to say thank you to our Fort Lauderdale audience over the last seven years, we are offering a discount on all our upcoming classes planned through March! Take a look at our offerings below and sign up using the code THANKSFTL at checkout for 10% off any class, course, print club or open studio on the Spring schedule.

If you have a private class you’ve been wanting to schedule or are planning renting studio time, please touch base with us ASAP. We have limited availability in our Spring schedule. So, let’s connect and realize that print, paper, book project while we still have the presses running.

What We’ve Been Up To This Month

Letterpress curious folks joined up last week for a handset letterpress Print Club demonstration. Using the above design, each student handset their own names to add to a two-color postcard.

One of our class highlights from this month has been our new four week course - Introduction to Bookbinding! Over the last three weeks, we have covered simple bindings like the pamphlet stitch and X-book, Japanese stab bindings, drum leaf binding, the lotus fold and accordion books. In our final week, we tackle the long stitch leather travel journal!

Did you know we run a staff workshop each month in order to test out new courses? This month staff members were lead through the pronto plate technique - a modern approach to lithography.

Photo Etching: Solar Plates

Sunday, February 20th 10am - 4pm
Learn the basics of photogravure printmaking using solar plates. In this course, you will learn how to use the solar plate process for non-toxic photogravure printmaking. Students will learn what a solar plate is and how to prepare images to create a positive that is exposed onto the photosensitive polymer coating of a solar plate. They will develop their exposed plates in water to create photogravure plates in which the images are etched into the photopolymer on the plate. Students will walk away with a small edition of original prints.
