Studio Insider Newsletter: August

Studio Insider: Keeping you on top of the good stuff

If you are receiving this email, it is because you are an active part of our Miami studio’s ecosystem! The purpose of this newsletter is to keep our Studio Insiders (studio members, staff, interns, and resident artists) in the loop on what’s happening at the studio in the coming month. It’s meant to be a bare-bones run down to help you maximize your studio time and help you stay on top of deadlines, deals, and events. This email only goes out to the folks who we know might need it. Keep an eye out for it in your inbox!

DATES + NEWS

A reminder:

We’re doing what we can to keep you up to date on whats up with us. If the things you’re working on involve us and you need anything from us to move forward, please reach out. We’re doing a lot of hands-on work at this time, so we’ll be a little slower on the emails. Patience and good planning will be very much appreciated! And if you have a short notice need? Call us at the studio phone number (305) 646-1065 and we can get you on track.

Here are the studio:

  • Friday, August 9th, 6-9PM: Member Night: Three free hours of unassisted studio time, monitored by Brooke Frank. She’ll be happy to chat with you about your work and ideas, too, if you have some ideas you’ve been rolling around in your head. Think of this as her office hours.

  • Documentation wall! Need a blank white wall to photograph your work against? We have one (at least for the next few weeks while we rearrange the front room!) If you are interested in coming in and temporarily installing your work to document for your website, for installation proposals, for applications, or just for practice, please reach out to Brooke via email to set it up. This is FREE! And temporary! Do not wait if this is something you want to take advantage of.

BODY: [Just say hello and let me know when you can come in during our business hours, which are Tuesday-Friday, 11AM-7PM]

  • July 31st: Tropic Bound Exhibitor application deadline

Remember Tropic Bound? Miami’s one and only international artists’ book fair? Ingrid and her collaborators, Sarah Michelle Rupert and Cristina Favretto, organized the inaugural fair for February 2023, and we are excited to find ourselves gearing up for it once more. Get ready for Tropic Bound 2025, and if you’d like to be an exhibitor, get ready fast! Whether you know and love Miami’s deep cultural arts scene or find yourself surprised to hear it has one, we strongly encourage makers and stewards of artists’ books world-wide to take a good, hard look at Feb. 6-9th, 2025 on their calendars and get this application in by July 31st. We can’t wait to see what folks will bring this year.

  • Sign up to have a table at Small Press Fair (before we run out of space!)
Small Press Fair 2024 is coming up FAST! If you would like to secure a table for yourself or a group you’re a part of, head over to the SPF website and sign up now. SPF is a great way to meet other print/book/zine makers and enthusiasts, and to share and sell the things you love to make. If you don’t want to have a table this year but still want to get involved, follow SPF on Instagram @spfftl and join the email list at the bottom of this page so you don’t miss the call for volunteers. SPF is only possible because of the love of the community.

LEARN + MAKE

Workshops to look forward to

Come spend a little time with Sammi McLean at the studio in August. Start winding down your summer with the Print Club Linocut Demo, or if you’re really excited for fall, nothing will bring back the best of those back-to-school butterflies like making some fresh new blank books! Learn to bind your own, and you can make that niche form of euphoria for yourself whenever you want. There’s no better time and place to get started.

Private workshops for custom goals

Don’t forget that we’ve added a few of our favorite Private Instruction options to our Classes + Events page — just add them to your cart and check out to book them. We’ll reach out to schedule your private workshop ASAP. If you want to set up Private Instruction for something a little more off-the-beaten-path, you can still absolutely do so through this link. Members: You get 20% off on all Private Instruction! Search your emails from us for your code. If you’re purchasing through the website, use your member code at checkout. Members will find that scheduling Assisted Studio Time is more practical for one-on-one learning, but Private Instruction lets you set up a workshop for you and up to three other folks. As long as a member is booking the workshop, the discount applies to the whole purchase! We want it to be easy for you to share the things you love with the people around you.

Already know what you want to make? Come and make it:

  • We now offer Members-Only Studio Passes for either 7-day or 30-day time periods — you set the start date with us! We can only support 4 Studio Passes at a time — if you know you’ve got a busy month coming up, reserve yours ASAP.

  • Open Studio Sessions are posted through June! Members can reserve their spots in a session by purchasing it on our website.
