On View: at the FATVillage Projects September 28 - December 20, 2019
Presented by Small Press Fair South Florida, In Exchange is a group exhibition of regional artists whose work celebrates the collaborative nature of fine art printmaking and will accompany the fourth edition of Small Press Fair Fort Lauderdale.
Historically, printmaking has brought artists together on the press; often a master printmaker and an artist whose expertise lies in another medium, whether that be painting, collage, drawing or sculpture. Through collaboration, the two are able to produce something greater than their two halves, allowing an exchange to unfold between process and content. Within contemporary printmaking, the act of collaboration expands beyond location, allowing printmakers who have never met to trade work and engage through print portfolio exchanges.
Though this exhibition calls for work made in collaboration with printmakers, it is not solely focused on exhibiting printed editions in the traditional sense. Whether producing large-scale fabric installations or sculptural paper objects, exhibited works will be the result of an exchange between at least two artists, one with a focus in printmaking. Providing context to their collaborations, individual works from artists will also be exhibited in the projects space.
